Volunteer/Service Hours Resource Guide Please use this list as a guideline for what will and will not be counted as acceptable volunteer work for your NJHS service hours. Please note that this list is not all inclusive and should be used as a resource for determining whether your activity is appropriate. QUALIFYING EXAMPLES NJHS Group Service Projects Boy Scout, Girl Scout, or 4H service events Environmental Improvement Projects Food Drives Food Pantry/Soup Kitchen Habitat for Humanity Office work at non-profit organizations Religious youth group volunteer work Ronald McDonald House Volunteering at: nursing homes, libraries, hospitals, animal shelters Basically, choose projects that will help not-for-profit agencies and organizations; target projects that help the underprivileged, the elderly, the disabled, the environment, and others in need. NON-QUALIFYING EXAMPLES Any activity you are paid for Babysitting at home or for a neighbor Class associated activities Sports teams Odd jobs at home Helping immediate family members Office work (parent or privately owned business) Participation in religious services Working on a political campaign Voluntary work for family members |
